silver says he “unmade flint” but actually he killed flint, he killed madi, and he killed himself. he destroyed them all, not just in the sense that he ruined their lives but he destroyed all of their identities. and the pathetic part is that flint and madi can and will find some way to put themselves back together even if they will never be who they were again. they will have context. madi will have her people she will probably find someone to love again and flint will have thomas. both of them will be someone. silver will be no one forever. he can’t go back to being who he was because who he was was someone who was loved by madi and flint and they are gone. and he can’t be anyone new not just because he can’t ever un-love them and leave them behind in the way they will (at least try to) leave him behind but also because he has no concept of himself in the first place. the only time he ever even liked himself was when he was someone they loved. so he’ll try to be some ramshackle poor imitation of that guy and he will be a “cook” and he will make jokes and he will manipulate people and he will scheme and plot and he will go back to skeleton island. by his own hand he will be stuck in a narrative that he desperately wanted to escape. he will be right there in the ground with the chest and with flint and with madi forever.
